51 Years Ago Today

I_Can't_Help_Myself

For reasons I will reveal after the list, I thought it would be fun to review the Billboard Top 40/Top 100 that would have been playing on this very day in 1965. This is an edited version where I pulled out some of the secondary statistics. I found the full original at Weekly Top 40 on Wordpress.

One thing unusual for this week is there is no Beatles song in the Top 40 as Ticket to Ride had just fallen down to 47 and Help! would not be released for another couple of weeks. Despite this oddity for this portion of the 1960s, I think it would be tough to find another Top 40/100 that matches the overall strength and diversity of this one.

Unfortunately, what Billboard missed this week was the release on this very day 51 years ago of the KoHoSo debut single "Wah Wah Wah" on Commonwealth of Kentucky Birth Records. I must admit it wasn’t my best effort but, then again, considering my extremely limited vocabulary at the time, it was the best I could do. I guess I shouldn’t have expected so much considering the competition.
