According to Mr. Lonto, this cover of the Standard Oil of Indiana company magazine is the first appearance of the "torch and oval" logo. Under the Standard name as well as American, Amoco, Pan-Am, and Utoco, this would soon become a familiar site across almost all of the United States. Although it is still used on some gasoline branding, the last signs disappeared in the early 2000s after the company was taken over by BP.
