Stockton Boulevard once carried U.S. Route 99 in the southern portion of Sacramento. When ultimately bypassed by a freeway, it became a poster child for urban blight. While not as much as needed, the area is far better today than it was during my time in Sacramento when nobody went to this area of town unless they had to.
The San Juan Motel is long gone — only this sign remains. According to some news reports, its days are probably numbered. The lot the motel sat on is fairly large and things look good for it to finally be redeveloped. I just hope somebody takes pity on this old sign and puts it somewhere for safe keeping until it can be restored.
