On one hand, it worries me that Pizza Hut/Yum! Brands will use this as an excuse to finally get rid of these renegade owners that spend quite a bit of money to keep this old treasure alive for everybody to see. On the other hand, knowing that Pizza Hut is pushing to open smaller locations with nothing but drive-through service, maybe this location isn’t completely doomed.
Yes, I am well aware Pizza Hut doesn’t make the best pizza. The pan pizza that gave the chain new life in the 1980’s isn’t as good as it once was and the most recent return of the P’Zone was an abomination compared to the original. In an era when pizza is available even in the most rural of American areas thanks to small, specialized ovens, frankly, there are gas stations that make better pizza.
That being said, I’d still hate to see this last public display of Pizza Hut Pete in neon motion be sent to a museum, put in a private collection, or scrapped.
