We all know there are words you never want to hear. "You’re being audited," "The part I need to fix your car is on back order," "You’ll need a root canal," and "Your account has been frozen due to suspicious activity" are among many that immediately come to mind.
However, there are three other words that also almost always mean bad news.
"Under new ownership."
For the past several weeks, you might have noticed times that my websites have been down or emails to me have bounced. This only began to happen after my web host, GeekGhost, was taken over by a small web hosting conglomerate, ebox Limited.
Up until now, my time with GeekGhost had been mostly wonderful. When there was a period of problems, the company’s president took over my ticket, resolved everything, and then gave me a generous locked-in yearly discount for all the trouble. He even checked in with me on occasion as he was also a fan of KoHoSo.us.
Now he is gone along with the GeekGhost I knew for years. It has been replaced with outsourced customer service that doesn’t fully read what I tell them and tries to lay the blame for everything at my feet. Sometimes I wonder if ebox is intentionally trying to get me to leave because of the yearly discount I was given.
I have jumped through every hoop customer service has asked of me even though I know most of it was useless. I have begged and then threatened to leave. Nothing has changed.
While I have already chosen a new web host, the problem is that I have to pay for at least a whole year in advance. With money already tight for KoHoSo Radio 66 and having just had to replace the clutch on my car, I have no choice but to wait until I am closer to the end of my term with GeekGhost.
So, until probably sometime in mid-January, every once in a while, you might have to wait anywhere from seven to 60 minutes for my sites to work. You might also have to re-send any emails that bounce.
At least for KoHoSo Radio 66, you can always listen at its page on Live365 as well as through many other websites, apps, and devices. As for KoHoSo.us…well, you’ll just have to wait.
I apologize for the inconvenience this will cause. I ask for your patience and will get my sites on a better host.
At least know that the new one I have chosen comes highly recommended by one of my longest friends as well as legitimate review sites. Let’s just hope the owner never sells.
Some long while ago, I remember ommenting on this blog, related to the website (but not specifically related to the hosting issues you are dealing with now. As someone who does websites for small businesses and individual entities, sometimes I really dislike that so many hosting companies have removed all payment schedules that arent annual or yearly.
I keep track of thr hosts that are still sticking it out and not kowtowing to that. Here is hoping for a good move to a new host. Please reach out (like you did in this blog post) of you need any help qoth the technical aspects of migration.
